New Cell Phones are water-resistant, not waterproof, and can be submerged up to a certain depth for a limited time. Newer iPhones, like the iPhone 12 and later, have an IP68 rating, meaning they can be submerged up to 6 meters (about 19.7 feet) for up to 30 minutes. Older models, like the iPhone 7 and 8, have an IP67 rating, which means they can be submerged up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Water resistance can decrease over time with normal wear and tear.
If your screen is cracked or if the phone was opened to replace the battery the water resistant ability goes to zero.
One tiny drop of water can create havoc inside your phone. The drop of water can roll around shorting our every electrical component it touches. Turning your phone off helps but there are still some components that have power even when the phone is off.
You must open the phone up and disconnect the battery ASAP!
Placing your phone in Rice does not do a thing!
If you bring your phone in we will open it and disconnect the battery for free.
The only way to recover data on most modern cell phones is to fix it.
The encryption is so good that if the phone does not make it to the power on screen and if you don’t type the correct PIN in your data will be impossible to recover.
Water and Electricity Don’t Mix!
When a phone gets wet, particularly while it’s powered on, the water acts as a conductor, allowing electricity to flow through unintended paths on the circuit board. This can burn out electrical components.
Corrosion: This flow of electricity in the presence of water causes a chemical reaction called electrolysis, leading to corrosion of the metal components inside your phone. This corrosion can appear as a white or green powdery residue. The electricity accelerates the corrosion of electrical components. It can make electrical components dissolve in minutes.
It is very difficult to give an estimate of a recovery with out seeing your phone.
MASHED CELL PHONE
If your cell phone is severely damaged you need to bring us all the pieces. Be careful because it is very easy to cut yourself with the broken glass.
Also the Lithium-ion battery can suddenly catch on fire. It is best to store it in an old pot or ceramic dish with a lid. Do Not Ship a damage phone because it could burst in flames at any moment.
